More information

This study is focused on testing our innovative deep sleep enhancement technology using different consumer-friendly sleep-monitoring devices, such as headbands and earables. By participating, you’ll help us refine our approach to making high-quality, restorative sleep more accessible through everyday devices.

The study takes place at the Sleep & Memory Lab at the University of Amsterdam, where you’ll spend one comfortable night in a hotel-like sleep room with a high-quality mattress. During the night, you'll sleep while wearing both a full EEG cap and a wearable device (or in some cases, no wearable device). A member of our research team will be there to guide you through the entire process. In the morning, you’ll receive towels and access to a shower to start your day refreshed.

For your participation, you’ll receive €20 and a personalized scientific sleep report based on your night in the lab, offering valuable insights into your sleep patterns.

How often can I participate?

You’re welcome to participate as many times as you like! However, you can’t join the same project more than once. Some projects include different types of trials, so to make sure you don’t miss out on any opportunities, we recommend signing up as a DeepSleep Pioneer. We keep track of which projects you’ve already taken part in and will notify you when a new trial is a match!

Are there any side effects from the stimulation?

Nope! The stimulation we use is completely non-invasive and has no known side effects. All the equipment used in our experiments is designed with safety and comfort in mind. If you ever experience any unusual or lasting effects after participating, please contact the researcher involved in your study and your GP right away.

What if I can’t fall asleep?

It happens — and it’s totally okay! If you find that you’re unable to fall asleep during a study, you’re free to stop the session at any time. If your sleep troubles are caused by specific circumstances (like stress, personal issues, or technical problems), we’ll be happy to invite you back to try again another time, if you’d like.

How is the compensation determined?

Compensation depends on the number of nights you’re asked to sleep for a given trial. If you’re traveling from farther away, feel free to reach out to us about possible travel reimbursements. Not every trial includes compensation or travel coverage, so if you’re unsure, just ask!

Do you have questions?

If you have any questions about the study or are simply curious about sleep research in general, don’t hesitate to reach out: we’re happy to help!

You can send your questions or requests to the email address below. When you do, please mention that you’re contacting us regarding the sleep study.

If you’d rather speak directly with one of the researchers involved in a specific study, feel free to leave your contact details: we’ll get in touch with you as soon as possible.
