We are seeking a dedicated EEG & Sleep Research Specialist / Research Manager to lead and manage our research projects. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing research initiatives at the University of Amsterdam and in collaboration with other esteemed research institutes. You will oversee all stages of research—from ideation and grant proposal co-writing to the training and supervision of interns and junior researchers, as well as data analysis and reporting. You will also be the key liaison with our hosting institute and report directly to DST’s CSO and the DST board.
Key Responsibilities
Research Project Management
Lead and manage multiple research projects in sleep science, with a focus on EEG experimentation.
Collaborate with several research institutes to design, implement, and oversee research initiatives.
Serve as the primary point of contact for the hosting institute (University of Amsterdam), ensuring strong and productive relationships.
Project Development & Grant Writing
Ideate new research projects and co-write grant proposals to secure funding.
Develop research methodologies that align with DST’s mission and strategic objectives.
Team Leadership & Supervision
Select, train, and supervise interns and junior researchers.
Foster a collaborative and innovative research environment across interdisciplinary teams.
Data Analysis & Reporting
Conduct and oversee advanced data analysis using state-of-the-art methods.
Program and implement analysis pipelines in Python for multidimensional neuroelectric datasets.
Prepare detailed research reports and publications for both internal and external dissemination.
Strategic Collaboration
Maintain close communication with DST’s CSO, the DST board, and partner research institutes.
Ensure that research findings contribute to the ongoing development and consumer market integration of DeepSleep technology.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
Academic Background
A PhD in a topic related to sleep science or a closely related field.
Technical Expertise
Extensive experience in sleep experimentation using EEG, with a deep understanding of brain anatomy and physiology.
Up-to-date knowledge of both human and animal sleep literature, particularly in relation to cognition and (mental) health.
Expert knowledge in EEG analysis, including excellent statistical skills applicable to multidimensional data sets.
Proficiency in programming analysis pipelines in Python.
Research & Management Skills
Proven experience in managing research projects, including grant writing, team supervision, and multi-institute collaboration.
Excellent scientific writing skills in English, with a track record of published research.
Additional Assets
Experience in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of neurobiology, psychology, and engineering.
Familiarity with wearable EEG devices is a plus.
Flexibility
Willingness to work flexible hours to meet the demands of advanced research.
